Pottstown, PA – August 1, 2015 – The Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to enhance the health and wellness of area residents by providing education, funding and programs, is delighted to declare Hollenbach Park as the grand prize recipient of its 2nd annual “On Your Park, Get Set, Go!” contest.

Collecting an impressive total number of 18,827 votes – many of which were interactive and required a visit to the park itself – from its local residents throughout the month of July, Hollenbach Park triumphed over its 13 competitors to claim the $10,000 grant offered by the Foundation for park improvements. The park plans to use its winnings to develop the trail system in the park and purchase playground equipment.

“We couldn’t be more overjoyed to witness the extraordinary level of support, and more importantly, active involvement, On Your Park received this year. From Montgomery County to Berks County and in between, having the ability to reap the benefits of a healthy lifestyle by visiting your favorite park counts as a win for all,” said Foundation President Dave Kraybill.

In addition to Hollenbach Park two other parks were recognized as first runner-up and second-runner up, respectively. Pineland Park was crowned the second place winner and will receive $7,500 towards adding equipment to its skate park. Connie Batdorf Park was named the third place winner and will receive $5,000. The park intends to apply the earnings to enhance the natural features of the park and add new recreational opportunities.
Boyertown Community Park was the winner of the $2,500 lottery prize and intends to use the funds towards additional park programs.

Applauded by park and recreational bureaus, as well as communities alike, “On Your Park, Get Set, Go!” was conceived in response to Coca Cola’s “America is Your Park” initiative. This year’s competition featured 14 parks on a mission to win. From July 1st – July 31st, the participating parks required assistance from the public in the form of votes to be victorious. Voting methods, which were weighted, included scanning QR codes on QR code signs; posting a “selfie” at the park and uploading it to the Mission Healthy Living Facebook page or emailing it to OnYourPark@gmail.com; and voting online by visiting the Mission Healthy Living Facebook page.
