Tri-County Active Adult Center
More than 1,700 older adults visit the Tri-County Active Adult Center annually, with an average of 200 people coming through the center’s doors daily for activity, food, and friendship. The center served upwards of 18,000 daily hot lunches and provided 1,500 hours of exercise classes in 2019 alone.
The center offers much of its programing free of charge, and any older adult can spend the day at the center for free while enjoying lunch and getting exercise. And children in the community benefit from the center’s programs as well, with the Bigs and Littles Mentoring Program offering an opportunity for building relationships across generational divides.
Expertise in rent rebates, energy assistance, and nutrition assistance is available at the center. Professional staff members are always available to aid with filling out forms and provide expertise on a range of issues. In operation for over 40 years, the center moved to its current home at 288 Moser Road in spring of 2017, where staff members are continually updating and improving the facility to meet the needs of the Pottstown area’s older adults. Since 2005, the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation has supported the center with 22 grants totaling nearly $1 million.
In the fall 2019 grant round, the Foundation awarded a grant of $60,000 to support nutrition, exercise, social, and education programs designed to help older adults live fuller, longer, and more independent lives.
