Play Streets

June 23, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The Play Streets program will temporarily close streets to traffic in Pottstown neighborhoods and provide play equipment to create safe, fun, and healthy spaces for children, families, and neighbors to connect and play right outside their doors. This program will give kids throughout historically underserved areas of Pottstown more space to be active, in addition to providing local organizations with an adaptable outreach platform to provide free activities targeted towards Pottstown’s K – 5 youth and their caregivers.

Seven Play Streets events are planned throughout the summer. The dates and locations are:  June 16 at Chestnut Street Park, June 23 at Maple Street Park, June 30 at Cherry Street Park, July 14 at Barth Elementary School field, July 21 on King Street near YWCA Tri-County Area, July 28 at Spruce Street Park, and August 11 at Pottstown Middle School. There will be no rain dates. The public will be notified of a cancellation through the Pottstown Parks and Recreation Facebook page by 3:30 PM the day of the event.

Play Streets is a collaborative effort among community organizations, and is being led by Pottstown Parks and Recreation, which has hosted community events in and outside of local parks. This includes their successful “Water Wednesdays” initiative, which has brought families out to local streets to cool off at borough fire hydrants in past summers.

Pottstown Parks and Recreation has partnered with the Play Streets Coalition to deliver this program in year one. These organizations include, but are not limited to: ACLAMO, Genesis Housing, Montgomery County Community College, Phoenixville Federal Bank and Trust, Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation, Pottstown Children’s Discovery Center, Pottstown Community Action, Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities (pottstowncluster.org), Pottstown Hospital – Tower Health, Trellis for Tomorrow, and YWCA Tri-County Area.
