As we continue on through September, National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, we look at all the ways to help children stay active, eat right and lead healthier lifestyles.
We Can! (Ways to Enhance Children's Activity & Nutrition) is a national movement to empower parents, caregivers, and communities as a whole to help children ages 8 to 13 years old mantain a healthy weight.
Here are three ways courtesy of We Can! to help your children embrace healthy living:
Eat Right: Lose the junk food and encourage your kids to eat balanced meals with fruits, veggies, grains, proteins and everything else that should proportionally fill up their plate. When food shopping, reference the GO, SLOW, and WHOA Foods list to help you stay on track and provide healthy meals your kids will love.
Get Active: Sign them up for fall sports in or outside of school. Allow them to get outside and play for a bit before it's time to come inside and hit the books. Lead by example and get them up off the couch and excited to get moving together as a family.
Reduce Screen Time: Limit the amount of time your children can make use of their digital devices. Encourage physical activity and unplugging each day. For tips on how to reduce your children's screen time, visit here.
