New Year's resolutions can be hard to stick to, but starting out with small, realistic goals can be the key to your success. Choose something simple that you can implement in your daily life such as walking.
Did you know that increasing the amount of steps you take each day could add years to your life? Yes, something as easy as walking can help you feel better and jumpstart you on the path towards healthier living. It's truly a small step that could lead to a big change.
Here are four ways to get you up and moving more throughout the day:
Skip the email: Have a question for your co-worker or boss? Take a stroll over to their desk instead of writing a lengthy email for an answer to a quick question. It will get you away from your desk, walking and some face-to-face time with something other than a screen.
Set reminders: Use your phone or computer to set timed, daily reminders to alert you that it's time to get up from your desk and move after a certain amount of time has passed. This can be especially helpful during the work day when you have so much on your plate that you forget (or don't have time to) move around.
Walking meetings: Instead of convening your team in the conference room, try a walking meeting outside or even a few laps around the office as a warm-up before a sit-down meeting. If it's a lengthy meeting, provide breaks in which your staff can get up and stretch their legs during a prolonged period of sitting.
Make it a part of your routine: When you get home from work (or for the early birds, in the morning before work!), make it a daily goal to take a lap or two around your neighborhood. After a day of nothing but sitting, this will do your body good and help you get in a few extra steps before dinner and bedtime.
