If you’re looking for something fun to do this weekend, the 4th Annual Run for Kacey 5K is the place for you Saturday, June 6. Not only will you be receiving your weekend dose of exercise, but you’ll be supporting a great cause at the same time.
The race, which will take place at Riverfront Park, 140 College Drive, will benefit the Kacey Rose Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports families fighting pediatric cancer. The Foundation was created in memory of Kacey Rose Mitchell who passed away in May of 2008 after losing her battle with Leukemia.
The 5K is for runners and walkers of all levels and registration after June 1st and/or the day of the race costs $20. The course is flat and fast, out and back course along Schuylkill River trail, according to the event’s registration site. In addition to the race, there will be a free kids’ ¼ mile fun run. There will be prize money and medals for the top three male and female winners ($100, $50, $25) as well as medals to first, second and third in age groups (19-under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60+), according to the site. Participants will receive a t-shirt while supplies last and there will be post-race refreshments and snacks provided.
Please arrive early if you have not pre-registered for the race. Race day registration will be from 7:30-8:45 a.m. and the race will begin promptly at 9 a.m. rain or shine.
Come out to show your support for kids battling cancer and get moving with family and friends! You don’t have to be a pro to extend a helping hand.
Wishing the best of luck to all participants!
