First it's buying treats to give out at Halloween, then all of a sudden it's time to get the turkey and prepare your Thanksgiving Day menu. Before you know it, the holiday season will fly by and it will be Christmas and New Years, but that's a whole other ball game!
For now, with Thanksgiving just about a week away, here are some healthy tips to help you prepare:
Slow down and enjoy your food: After all, Thanksgiving only comes once a year and there's always bound to be leftovers to enjoy post-Thanksgiving dinner. No need to scarf everything down that you've piled onto your plate in anticipation of round two. Most of the time, our eyes are bigger than our stomachs, so don't feel obligated to lick your plate clean. Enjoy the time with family and chew slowly, appreciating every bite!
Get outside: Too many people in the kitchen? Take a break from the Thanksgiving preparations and take a walk around the neighborhood with family or friends. You can also do this immediately following dinner to help get up and moving instead of rolling towards the couch in a food coma after dinner.
Drink water: Not only will you stay hyrdrated, you'll feel fuller. This will prevent overeating. Of course, this is a once-a-year induglence, so treat yourself with a piece of pumpkin pie or two, but don't overindulge and listen when your body is telling you its full. Remember, leftovers are a beautiful thing!
