Another year has gone by and in a few days we'll welcome the start of 2016 with new goals, exceptions and hopes.
As you begin to plan your resolutions, here are a few tips to help you stick to what you have set forth this year.
Start small: If your goal is to start leading a healthier lifestyle, begin with changing one thing at a time. Swap out your daily soda for water, resist the urge to stop at your favorite fast food chain twice a week, try a new excerise, etc. If you try to do too much all at once, your resolutions may not make it past January.
Get serious: Write down your goals and enlist your friends, family members, co-workers, etc. to help hold you accountable. If one of your goals is to excerise more, get yourself a workout buddy who can help motivate you to accomplish that goal and vice versa. You can be that positive force in someone else's life that encourages and pushes them to accomplish the resolutions they have set forth for 2016. It's a win-win!
Be specific: Make S.M.A.R.T. goals that include when, why, how details. Instead of saying, "I'm going to get more sleep during the week," set a goal that says, "On Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, I will be in bed by 10 p.m., with no electronic devices in sight, to get at least seven hours of sleep."
No matter what your resolutions are, do what makes you happy and improves your quality of life. Even the smallest of goals can make a world of difference! Small steps lead to big changes.
Wishing you and yours a healthy and happy new year!
