While a lot may be happening in the area with the arrival of Pope Francis and the 2015 World Meeting of Families, this Saturday is recognized as National Family Health & Fitness Day.
Held on the last Saturday of September each year, this weekend marks the 19th annual obeservance of the day dedicated to family wellness. To help you celebrate with your family, here are some fun ideas to get you started:
DIY obstacle course: Turn your backyard into a fun obstacle course using every day, household items like hula hoops, ladders, pool noodles, etc. and create a friendly competition for you and your family.
Go on an adventure: Whether it's indoor rock climbing, visting a National Park, or riding bikes on The Schuylkill River Trail, playing mini golf or even laser tag, plan an event your family can do together. Even though you'll be busy having fun, you'll also be getting your dose of physical activity for the day!
Fall is in the air: Pumpkin picking, apple picking, corn mazes, oh my! Since yesterday was the first official day of fall, enjoy all the season has to offer outside before you have to bundle up. Create a game of gathering up the leaves on your front lawn, go for a walk and enjoy all the changing colors of fall foliage and breathe in the fresh air instead of staying cooped up inside.
No matter what you decide to do, enjoy the time spent with your family as you come together to embrace healthier living!
