Fall officially arrives tomorrow with the first day of Autumn, although it won't start to feel like it until the weekend. While you're enjoying these last couple days of extended summer, add these fun, local fall activities to your calendar:
Visit the FARM: Head on over to High Street and visit Pottstown's open-air farmer's market and check out the 20+ vendors while you still can! The FARM runs from 4 p.m.-dusk on Thursdays through Oct. 13. From fresh fruits and veggies, beautiful bouquets of flowers, cheeses, wine, handmade art, etc., there is a wide array of goodies to peruse. Enjoy an evening stroll and check out everything the FARM has to offer!
Pick Your Own at Frecon Farms: Wednesdays-Sundays until Oct. 30, you can pick your own fresh fruit at Frecon Farms! This weekend, Gala, McIntosh, Cortland, Golden Delicious, Jonathan apples, Rymer Red pears, sunflowers and pumpkins are up for grabs! Fun for the whole family and delicious, fresh fruit to enjoy! In fact, Frecon Farms was recently featured on WHYY Philadelphia. Visit here to watch and learn more about the family business before you head out to pick!
Scarecrow Contest: Thanks to Manatawny Green Golf Course in Pottstown, you and your family can build your own scarecrow or create one on Oct. 15 to be on display at the course for the whole community to see! The contest is open to all ages and individuals, groups and/or organizations/businesses are welcome to participate. Get the family involved and begin brainstorming your scarecrow design! The contest is FREE to enter and designs must be family friendly.
An Apple a Day, the Colonial Way: On Oct. 22, from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m., learn how apples would be made into both sweet and hard cider and try your hand at working the cider press at Pottsgrove Manor! Also, watch the colonial cooks as they make apple butter and other historic apple recipes. Kids are welcome and can make a themed craft to take home!
