We’re all looking forward to chowing down on our favorites this Thanksgiving, but before the feasting starts, there are plenty of chances to burn off a few advance calories while supporting great local causes.
Among the most popular local traditions is the 9th Annual Toss Your Turkey 5K, hosted by Pottsgrove Cross Country at 8:30 a.m. in Pottstown. Proceeds will benefit the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities’ meals and shelter programs, Operation 143 food backpack program for kids, Pottstown Fire Police, and Pottsgrove Cross Country.
The race includes a turkey toss competition in which the male and female who toss a frozen turkey the farthest—in addition to running the 5k—wins a pair of Saucony shoes from Chester County Running Store.
Farther north, our friends at the Wellness Council of Boyertown will hold their 4th Annual Turkey Trot 5K. The race, held in memory of Cliff Reigner, will begin 9 a.m. at Boyertown Park, and race-day registration opens at 8:15 a.m.
Farther afield, there are runs in Wyomissing, Downingtown, and North Wales, in addition to dozens more across the state.
