Happy Cinco de Mayo! Despite common assumptions, the holiday is not to celebrate Mexican Independence Day, but commemorates the Mexican army's triumph at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, according to NBC News. In fact, Cinco de Mayo is seemingly more popular in the U.S. then it is in Mexico as reported by NBC.
Today is not only Cinco de Mayo, but Opening Day of the Pottstown Farm & Artisan Regional Market (FARM). Located in downtown Pottstown along the 200 block of High Street, the market will be open on Thursdays from 4-8 p.m. (weather permitting) from May 5th to October 13th.
The market's mission is to facilitate the exchange of fresh, locally grown agricultural products and hand-made artisan goods with the regional community. It will feature an array of vendors , activities and entertainment. Today, in honor of Cinco de Mayo, the market will feature several Latin-inspired activities such as a salsa making demonstration by Juan Carlos Mexican Restaurant, a DJ providing cultural music and so much more! There will also be a chili cook-off to celebrate the opening.
Don't let the clouds keep you away, stop by FARM today and enjoy all the market has to offer.
Be sure to follow Pottstown FARM on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to stay updated on the latest market news!
