For many, the beach is a go-to family vacation spot that provides the ultimate relaxation. There’s just nothing quite like the feeling of your toes in the sand and the ocean breeze in your hair. There are several beaches to choose from that are favorites in New Jersey, Delaware such as Ocean City (both New Jersey and Maryland), Sea Isle City, Avalon, Margate, Atlantic City, Rehoboth, Long Beach Island, the possibilities are endless! Whichever destination you choose to visit, keep in mind these few tips to help you have the best, healthy vacation possible!
Family time not screen time:
Don’t spend your time off with those you love most with your head buried in your phone, computer or tablet. Build sand castles, go for a dip in the ocean, play games and just enjoy each other’s company. Unplug for the week or however long you have and, for once, don’t miss what’s happening around you. Instead of trying to record every moment, try living it!
Pack healthy snacks:
Yummy fresh fruits and veggies that are ripe and in season are the PERFECT snack for a hot day at the beach. Don’t forget to keep hydrated and drink plenty of water while getting your lounge on as well.
Take advantage of your surroundings:
Does the beach you’re visiting have a boardwalk? Rent bikes and go for a nice long ride on the boards or take a walk (or a run) with family and friends. There’s no better way to start the day! You could also go fishing, jet-skiing, parasailing— whatever floats your boat!
Protect your skin:
Wear a hat, sunglasses, but most importantly lots and lots of sunscreen. For most effective use, make sure you apply it properly. Chapstick with SPF is always a good idea to protect your lips as well! If you feel you’re getting too much sun, park yourself under a beach umbrella for a little shade and relief. It’s always a good idea to bring one!
