No, it's not Sunday, it's World Sleep Day, a celebration of sleep and a call to action on important issues related to sleep, including medicine, education, social aspects and driving, according to worldsleepday.org. This year, the slogan, "Good Sleep is a Reachable Dream," aims to help everyone get the sleep their bodies need- a crucial element of a healthy lifestyle.
According, to worldsleepday.org, a good night's rest is chalked up to three key ingredients:
1.) Duration- The length of sleep should be sufficient for the sleeper to be rested and alert the following day.
2.) Continuity- Sleep cycles should be seamless without interruption.
3.) Depth- Sleep should be deep enough or sufficiently sound to be restorative and refreshing.
To help get more Zzzzs at night, rid your room of all electronic devices, invest in some room-darkening shades, drink a nice cup of calming tea or whatever helps you wind down and relax at the end of the day. Stimulating your brain with your phone, computer or T.V. will only trick it into thinking your body should be awake and will keep you up for hours upon end. Allow your body to get the rest it deserves to not only benefit your health but your productivity each and every day.
