If I've learned anything in my 24 years of living, it's to never discredit your gut instinct. I stumbled across a quote the other day that began with this very piece of advice and it immediately caught my attention.
"Never discredit your gut instinct. You're not being paranoid. Your body can pick up vibrations, some better than others, and if something deep inside you says something's not right about a person or situation, trust it and keep it moving."
It really reasonated with me because too many times in life we question ourselves in terms of the decisions we make. Is this what's best for me? Should I have reacted the way I did? Should I have walked away from that person or situation in my life that was making me unhappy or causing me stress? To me, the answer to all of these things is YES if that's what your gut tells you. We are born with these instincts in order to help us survive, according to Lifehack.org and should use them as a guide.
Now, I'm not saying your gut is the only thing you should refer to when making important life decisions, but it's hard to dismiss an overwhelmingly persistent feeling that you just can't seem to shake.
If something doesn't sit well with you, chances are it's because your instincts have kicked in enough to alert you that it's not for you. That feeling you get deep down inside, that hunch, is in tune with you and, therefore, your happiness and should not be dismissed or ignored.
When it comes down to it, your well-being and happiness are what's most important. If it doesn't make you happy or help you to grow, it's time to reevaluate in order to keep moving forward.
