This past weekend, my aunt, sister and I faced the task of packing up what seemed like enough stuff for a small country (I have a lot of clothes, alright?) and moving it out of my dorm room in preparation for graduation in just two short weeks. Before we got in to packing mode, we spent the day outside walking around the beautiful campus of my school, St. Bonaventure University, located just an hour-and-a-half south of Buffalo, NY.
It was a beautiful, sunny day! Not too hot, with a cool breeze and plenty of green grass (sometimes it still snows here in May, so we’ll take the warm weather any way we can get it!). My aunt, also an alumna, and I were showing my little sister, who’s a freshman in high school, our second home. It was too gorgeous a day to spend it all inside slaving away over packing tape and boxes, so we got our legs moving, walking a good portion of my small, but vast campus. Especially my aunt and my sister who spent 5 ½ hours in the car to come help me pack need to stretch their legs and then some. Best family ever, huh?
As we proceeded to pack up most of my room with anything that would fit in the car, my family and I walked up and down the two flights of stairs, I can’t tell you how many times, lugging everything you can imagine — crates, lamps, bags upon bags of clothes (I told you I had a lot!), a printer, table, plastic bins filled to the brim, etc. I almost wish we had all been wearing pedometers to track what must have been thousands of steps between the three of us all weekend. Girl power! It’s amazing what can get done with a little elbow grease, team work and a lot of laughter.
By Sunday, we were all exhausted with sore feet and backs, but we all noticed that we slept like babies and felt great after each day of moving fun (hot showers helped too). After this weekend, I vowed to spend less time sitting around in my last two weeks in my beloved Bonaland, and get outside to enjoy the beautiful campus scenery I fell in love with five years ago as a prospective undergraduate student. I’ve come a long way since then, and I’m determined to keep getting better every step of the way!
Here’s to moving more and sitting less and having fun while doing it!
