Over the past week, I've made some changes in my daily habits and routines to help me be the best I can be in mind, body and spirit.
I'm starting small and going at my own pace, but as we know, small steps lead to big changes.
Coming from a large Italian family, healthy eating isn't always the easiest (it's hard to say no to a bowl full of pasta and fried meatballs your Mom Mom has spent all day preparing), but I'm doing my best to choose healthier, fresher options when it comes to eating. I'm also a mindless snacker. I can go through an entire bag of snacks without realizing it if I'm distracted doing other things. So, I've been incorporating more fruits and veggies into my diet as well as more protein.
I'm also working hard at increasing my daily water intake. I write down on a notepad on my desk how many ounces I want to drink and by what time of the day. This really helps me to focus and make sure I'm staying hydrated throughout the day. It's definitely something I struggle with, but I'm getting better! No more soda for me.
And, as I type this, I'm STANDING at my new desk which was just installed this morning. Yes, you read that right -- standing! I can alter the height of the desk so that I can get some extra movement throughout the work day instead of being sedentary for the entire day. I'm so excited and it truly is the little things in life that can make a day that much better.
No matter what you do, it's the effort put forth that really makes all the difference. I can honestly say I'm already starting to feel better and have more energy with just the small changes I've made thus far. Do what works for you and change little things here and there. You'll be glad you did!
Wishing you all a wonderful, healthy week!
