Back, back, backkkkk to school!
It’s hard to believe, but the summer is dwindling down and school is starting within the next couple weeks for some as we welcome fall.
As you’re running around trying to get everything and then some accomplished before that first day of school creeps up on you, here are some important things to keep in mind!
If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to call the doctor’s office and schedule those physical appointments to make sure they your kids (college kids, too!) have the proper immunizations and/or medications they need before they can enter school. For a complete list of the required vaccinations for the state of Pennsylvania and everything you need to know regarding the types of vaccinations, click here. Also, here are the local back-to-school immunization clinics listed by county.
Most kids enjoy the luxuries of summer and their time off —staying up till all hours of the night and sleeping in late. A couple weeks before school starts, try to get your kids back in the swing of things, so they’re not dragging come the first day of school. Start having them go to bed earlier each night (what your normal school year bedtime is) and wake them up in the morning at the time they will need to arise when school is back in session. This will help prepare them for the changes ahead and get their sleep cycle back in school mode.
School supplies list:
You know that back-to-school list your child brought home forever ago? It’s time to dig that up and head to the store for a back-to-school shopping trip. Binders, pencils, glue sticks and book covers galore! Make sure you refer to the list, provided by the school, for everything your child will need, if applicable, ahead of time so you’re not scrambling for items at the last minute.
Designate a homework area in your home that’s quiet and conducive to studying and completing school work. Give your child a half hour or so to run around and play when they get home. This will help them focus when they sit down to complete their homework. Allowing time for them to be active after school will go a long way in creating a more clear and energized mind.
