According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), each child and adolescent should get at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day. With the modernization of our society, many students fall short of this goal and childhood obesity has tripled in the USA since 1970. Obesity comes with lifelong struggles for individuals, including diabetes, heart conditions and daily lack of energy. American students, grades K-12, are in a classroom eight hours a day. By incorporating activity in the classroom, schools will begin to see the change in the students health, energy and overall retention of academic material. HBHM’s purpose is to give methods, ideas and tools to teachers to prepare them for the upcoming school year. Counselor and community personnel can also include these practices in their work place and local environments. We must remember that the responsibility for the health of the younger generations does not only fall on schools but on the community as a whole.

“Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds is important for educators to get together and collect there thoughts. It's nice when people are all passionate about the same topics and can recognize the benefits for not only the students but for themselves on staff. Listening and sharing stories, expertise and brainstorming for the upcoming school year really energizes all the attendees for the upcoming school year.”
Coordinator, Pottstown Early Action for Kindergarten Readiness (PEAK)
“Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds provides a great opportunity for networking and growth. It helps to hone in on skills and gives great ideas on how to improve on the things you are already doing. Most importantly it helps strengthen the community which will therefore lead to healthier bodies and minds.”
